Every once in a while, I get the opportunity to perform at a venue I’ve never seen before, and that’s exactly what happened when DJ Live was invited to celebrate Susanne and Gordon’s wedding at Valley Rock Inn in Sloatsburg, New York.
To be honest, I couldn’t believe I had never been there before. Valley Rock Inn is truly one of those hidden gems that many people have probably driven past without realizing what is tucked away behind its doors. As the venue describes itself, it is “set in the Village of Sloatsburg, NY, in the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains, surrounded by 70,000 acres of forever-wild parkland.”
Susanne and Gordon hosted an intimate wedding with 65 of their closest family members and friends. This was a second marriage for both of them, which made the evening feel especially meaningful.
The ceremony took place outdoors. Following the ceremony, guests moved inside for cocktail hour, which was held in the bar area. One of the things that makes Valley Rock Inn unique is the way the event spaces are spread throughout different rooms rather than one large ballroom.
After cocktail hour the guests made their way into the main dining room for dinner and speeches. To ensure everyone could enjoy every moment, I set up a wireless speaker system in the dining room so guests could clearly hear the music as well as the speeches.
Now I’ll admit, whenever I work at a venue where the dance floor is located in a separate room, I sometimes wonder if guests will make their way over once dinner is finished.
I had absolutely nothing to worry about.
As soon as dinner wrapped up, the guests filled the dance room and never looked back. Friends and family came ready to celebrate. The energy was fantastic from the very first dance set. Everyone jumped in, from the younger guests to the adults, and the dance floor stayed packed for the rest of the night.
We danced nonstop for two straight hours.
One other observation: Thursday weddings are becoming more and more popular. Thursday really is becoming the new Friday when it comes to weddings!
I also learned that Valley Rock Inn offers two distinct wedding experiences. Couples can host a beautiful tented outdoor wedding or take advantage of the indoor event spaces like we did for this event.
If you’re looking for a venue that feels unique, intimate, and completely different from the typical wedding hall, Valley Rock Inn is definitely worth a visit.
